What has evolved to be the Deputy Governor’s Office is one of the oldest units in the history of Government in the British Virgin Islands. It began as the office of the Secretary to Government in the colonial administration of the 1800s. This office has been at the centre of the history of government. Today we are a collection of departments, statutory bodies and specialized units.

Presently, the office and ministry group:

• Assist the Governor with his five constitutional functions and other general responsibilities.
• Constitute a key component in the network of ministries, departments, agencies, bodies and units delivering public services.
• Administer about 115 Acts and sets of Regulations, and complies with many others.
• Have a complement of more than 30 staff persons in 6 locations throughout the British Virgin Islands. Our 11 departments, one statutory body and three specialised units are in 20 locations with 465 persons employed.
• Have expenditure of $30 million annually together with $3 million in revenues.
