The BVI National Archives needs friends.

Will you be one?

Anyone is welcome to join the Friends of the Virgin Islands (UK) National Archives. The organisation’s objective is to provide financial and other support for the National Archives as required.

Why Help?

After many years of neglect, important and exciting work to preserve and protect public records and archives is now being done via the Deputy Governor’s Office. However, a crucial need is for purpose-built accommodation to store the records and to house the archives. We need a Records Centre for the intermediate records up to 25 years old, and an Archive Repository for the older records of permanent value. The Archives Repository would also provide space for research rooms, exhibitions and a conservation laboratory.  Another need is for funding to obtain microfilm copies of BVI historical materials available from Repositories in the UK and elsewhere. Microfilm copies are now very expensive.

The BVI Government has a role to play in supporting these works, but we need your help as well!

Examples of Support

  • Raising funds to help purchase documents and equipment which might otherwise be beyond its means. This could include BVI historical materials on microfilm.
  • Making financial contributions towards special projects, such as the building of the National Archives Repository and Records Centre.
  • Making grants towards BVI history publications and projects.
  • Organizing a volunteer scheme to assist the National Archives Office, working with professional staff.
  • Acting as joint sponsors of special projects.
  • Providing suggestions.

Membership Benefits
